ACL Industrial Flooring were recently tasked with what seemed like an impossible task. We received an enquiry on a Wednesday afternoon from a specialist engineering company in Preston asking for a quotation for a resin flooring project to be carried out before an important customer visit to their site in Preston. When we asked when the customer would be visiting, we were told on Tuesday and the work could only be completed on the weekend! We visited site on the Thursday morning and assessed the need of the client and this time we saw this was far from a straightforward project. The existing floor was saturated in oils and lubricants and there were various machines for us to go in and around. The preparation would take a while to get the floor surface into a suitable state. A price was agreed on the Thursday afternoon and all materials were arranged to arrive the following day.

We started the preparation on Friday afternoon at 3pm. To start with we used oil degreasers and cleaners to give the surface an initial clean. We then mechanically prepared the floor surface by dust controlled diamond grinding – this did a great job of cleaning up the surface, removed all the residual oil and provided a clean surface to apply the first coat to. We finished the preparation by 11pm Friday evening.

On Saturday the floor was cleaned down of any residual dust and debris before repairs and a coat of ACL-Prime OCS (our oil tolerant high build epoxy primer) was applied by bush and roller before being left to cure overnight. We used an oil tolerant epoxy resin coating for the first coat in case there was any residual oils in the slab.

On the Sunday final repairs were carried out to remaining highlighted cracks and bolt holes. After this the final finishing coat of ACL-Coat HB (our high build epoxy floor coating) was applied over the whole area whilst also incorporating a desired aluminium oxide aggregate to aid traction underfoot. The floor cured overnight so the client was ready to work on it at 8am on Monday morning.

Monday evening, we returned to the site in Preston and installed a single yellow line using ACL-Coat LM (our thixotropic resin flooring line marker). The client was very happy with the quick turnaround and the great finish achieved. ACL Industrial Flooring pulled out all the stops and completed the project from initial phone call to completed works in five days. This high build epoxy resin floor coating will give a long term solution while providing a slip resistant easy to clean surface that really wowed them and their client.
